Seven New Latin Americans Inducted into The BoF 500

Reggaeton sensation Karol G is one of the four main cover stories and Venezuelan model América González enters the coveted list.

In the ever-evolving realm of fashion, the BoF 500 yearly list remains one of the most important barometers of influence, creativity, and innovation. 

This prestigious list, which began as a curated index in September 2013, today boasts an impressive 1,291 entries from over 70 nationalities, showcasing the remarkable diversity and dynamism of the fashion world.

The Business of Fashion team employs rigorous research methodologies to pinpoint the individuals who deserve a place in this influential global community. Key criteria such as leadership, creativity, innovation, and impact are pivotal in the selection process. 

This year, 100 new additions have earned their spot in this esteemed group, representing 43 nationalities across eight categories: Designers, Executives, Media, Retailers, Entrepreneurs, the Creative Class, Models and Muses, and Catalysts.

Karol G, a Colombian reggaeton sensation, takes centre stage as one of the cover stars of this year's BoF 500. Her hits, including "Provenza" and "Tusa" featuring Nicki Minaj, have catapulted her to international stardom. 

What makes Karol G even more intriguing is her undeniable impact on the fashion world. Loewe, a luxury brand, recognized her as a fashion icon and featured her as a campaign model, a testament to her bold and eye-catching style.

In addition to Karol G, six other Latin Americans have earned their rightful place in this prestigious list:

His real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. Often dubbed the "King of Latin Trap," Bad Bunny is celebrated for propelling Spanish-language music into the global spotlight.

He became the most-streamed artist on Spotify in 2020 and has retained the title since. In 2022, he set a historic record, accumulating over 18.5 billion Spotify streams in a single year.

Beyond music, Bad Bunny is a fashion icon with sold-out Adidas collaborations and appearances in high-profile campaigns, including Jacquemus and Gucci, where he recently starred alongside his renowned girlfriend, Kendall Jenner. His influence spans both music and fashion, making him a cultural force to be reckoned with.

As a designer and activist, Carla Fernández is at the forefront of the ethical fashion movement. Her brand collaborates with artisans across Mexico to preserve the rich textile heritage of indigenous communities.

A medical student-turned-model, América González has made waves in the fashion world, earning recognition from Vogue and appearing on the cover of Vogue Mexico. She is the fourth Venezuelan to enter the list joining Carolina Herrera, Maria Luisa Poumaillou and Carmen Busquets.

Raul Lopez, the brains behind Luar, has really made a name for himself. His Ana bag is all the rage, and his connections with mega pop stars like Dua Lipa, J Balvin, and Shawn Mendes? Well, they've taken his label from a small startup to a must-watch brand at New York Fashion Week.

 Roberto Jatahy serves as the chief executive of Grupo Soma, a major Brazilian fashion conglomerate, overseeing several beloved brands in the industry.

Willy Chavarria, senior vice president of design at Calvin Klein and chief creative officer at his namesake label, is known for weaving politics, race, and sexuality into his designs, championing diversity and social engagement in the industry.
